Istanbul City Centre Area Guide

Istanbul, the largest city in Turkey, has many faces, encompassing all levels of society, interests, cultures, past-times and traditions. Throughout history, many empires have fought to gain strategic control of it, but thankfully, these days, it is more peacefully, the hub of shopping, tourism, business, and nightlife. It is the city centre where everything happens though, and each district has a theme making them unique from others. Property buyers looking at the real estate of Istanbul city centre will also be pleasantly surprised with the choice on offer.

The Touristic Face of Sultanahmet

The Sultan Ahmet district was formerly home to both the Ottoman and Byzantine empires, hence its reputation as the old part of Istanbul. Holding some of the world’s most historic and visited landmarks such as Topkapi Palace, Hagia Sophia and the Blue Mosque, anyone buying apartments in Istanbul city centre as buy-to-let rental investments has an already existing market of potential renters. The atmosphere and vibes also lend weight to a relaxed, easy-going lifestyle, but with everything at your disposal.

Beyoglu: The New Part of Istanbul

The Beyoglu district is a large area consisting of many smaller neighbourhoods such as cultural Karakoy, Tophane, and the famous Istiklal avenue that is the busiest street in Turkey. Known as the new part of the city, it is the centre of nightlife and shopping, although the back roads hold many nostalgic and cultural delights.

Karakoy, consisting of the famous Galata tower landmark, has achieved a retro reputation with its swanky sidewalk cafes and modern art gallery. While the backstreets of Istiklal Avenue house many antique shops, boutiques and eateries that perfectly portray the hedonistic face of Istanbul.

Sisli: Luxurious Living in Istanbul

Parts of the Sisli district like Nisantasi and Bomanti portray the prestigious side of Istanbul. Sisli was merely hunting grounds before the turn of the 20th century, but its luxury apartments for sale attract buyers with unlimited budgets.

For buyers unrestricted with a budget, this is an area worth looking at, since it offers vibes and environment that are perfect for single, couples and families. Elite schools and shopping are its primary attributes, but for year-round living, the comfortable pace of city centre in Sisli is a big lure.

Besiktas: Affordable Property for Sale in Istanbul city Centre

Heading towards the outskirts of the centre, Besiktas is most notably home to the famous Turkish football club and the Dolmabahce Palace, last home of the Ottoman sultans. Consisting of many smaller districts, the Ortakoy is a favourite spot for locals to hang out and well renowned for its jacket potato street foods.

The Levent neighbourhood is where it is all happening though. As one of the major business district of Istanbul city centre, modern apartments for young working professionals offer the latest in technology and amenities. Levent is home to the Sapphire tower that is the tallest skyscraper in Turkey, but that has not stopped it from competing with the Maslak district for impressive skyscraper projects featuring the latest in architecture.

Maslak: Apartment Living on the Edge of Nature

Maslak is another business district but don’t let that fool you because it also sits on the edge of the 5,000-hectare Belgrade forest. The sense of wilderness and being at one with nature seems quite unplace in the middle of Istanbul city centre, yet it is one of its most significant attributes.

Naturally, as a business district, apartment living is trendy, but architects have used many contemporary designs to make each skyscraper building look attractive while being highly functional. Seaside life is only 30 minutes’ drive away, so Maslak is an all-rounder when it comes to city life.
